Our Philosophy 

In today’s global marketplace, it is vital for individuals to be equipped with the skills needed to adapt to the changes.  Competing in English Proficiency is essential to surpass rivalry.  How the students achieve this goal in a short period of time becomes very important.  At MLC, we are not only providing a warm English learning environment and personal attention to each student, but also we continually improve our curriculum, carefully select our instructors, and periodically audit every class’s progress to make sure we provide a high-quality and efficient language education.

Our Teaching Methods

Metropolitan Language Center uses the Interactive Approach in all its language courses.  

Our small classes allow instructors to devote more attention to each student.  With personal attention and more opportunities to communicate with other students and your instructors, you will find that you will progress very quickly.  

Students speak and read in their new language from the very first class.  Every class is lively and interactive and students have maximum opportunities to practice their new language skills.  

The Courses are taught by carefully selected, university trained professional language instructors who are always native speakers of the language they teach.  Our courses are designed to give students the language skills they need to communicate effectively at work, at study, and in daily life.  We offer group courses at all levels of American English from beginning to advanced.  Each student is given a placement test to determine their appropriate level.

MLC's experienced stall and teachers always offer personal attention to each student -- and our students tell us that they love the friendly environment at our educational establishment.  Learning a language is now an active, rewarding and surprisingly enjoyable experience.  At MLC, we will do everything possible to make your stay in NYC one of the best memories of your life.

Our Program Offerings 

MLC's English Programs offer small group classes or private individual instruction that integrate the curriculum with the daily experiences and business activities in New York City and the USA.

We have three major programs  as follows:

Practical English Programs

These programs include American English, Business Communication, and TOEIC Preparation.  Our 20-hour-per-week, 30-hour-per-week Intensive and 40-hour-per-week Super Intensive courses have morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend sections available.  Enrollment is open throughout the year.  Group classes begin with a new cycle every 4 weeks. Students beyond the beginner level may begin on any Monday.   On the first day of school, all students take a written and oral placement examination to determine their level of English language proficiency.   Students must pass a written and oral examination to complete the current level study and/or enter the next level of class. 

Special Summer & Holiday Programs 

(June, July, August, and January)

These four-week Intensive Language programs are offered in June, July, August and January for students who would like to study English during their school or work holiday.  A written and oral placement examination is given to determine the level of English language proficiency.  Students have their mornings taking four hours of English classes in air-conditioned classrooms, and spend their afternoons to explore New York .  Special activities are scheduled on Fridays, Such as visits to New York neighborhoods, museums, or landmarks.  Tour trips are scheduled on Saturday and Sunday to nearby point of interests.

TOEFL Preparation and College/Graduate School Placement Programs 

The TOEFL Preparation program is focused on intermediate to advanced levels students who plan to continue their studies at a university or college here in the United States and to improve scores on the TOEFL tests.   MLC provides a unique College/Graduate School Placement Program as well.   This program combines the TOEFL Preparation and placement services.   MLC has connected with many universities and graduate schools in the top 500 universities in the United States to recruit foreign students.   This program assists the foreign students not only to improve their English skills to meet those institutions’ entrance requirements, but also to be accepted by the universities.
